Vigo is the most important city in Galicia, Spain. It is located in the province of Pontevedra. It is also known as the “Gateway to the Atlantic”. Vigo is the largest city in north-western Spain which is not a provincial capital itself.
The total area of the city is approximately 109,1 km². As of the 2007 census the population of the city was approximately 294,772 and the population of the entire metropolitan area was approximately 468,654.
Vigo has beautiful beaches and outstanding water sport facilities. The city is popular for its fishing industry, food, cultural and football team Celta de Vigo. It is also an important centre for research, with focus on studies related to ocean-based industries.
