Vigo's economy is significant to the total GDP of Galicia
Vigo is the most important city and leading industrial area in Galicia. The city has automotive plants, shipyards and auxiliary industry. PSA Peugeot Citroen (PSA) is a French automobile and motorcycle manufacturer company with its main headquarters in Vigo. In 2003 the company produced 473,000 vehicles, out of which, most of the vehicles were sold outside Spain.
Port of Vigo is one of the largest fishing ports in Europe and one of the busiest in transportation. It is also home to one of the world's largest fishing companies, Pescanova. It is the base for the big fishing companies, which have a prominent presence in Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique, Australia, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Chile, and Peru.
Nowadays tourism is one of the booming industries in Vigo. Every year millions of tourists visit Vigo.
